Rapid Diagnosis

If you are a man over the age of 40, have no other major medical conditions such as long-standing depression, and have scored 37/50 or more on the AMS questionnaire there is a moderate/high probability that you have Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome (TDS).

To confirm this you should initially consult your usual medical advisor, for an opinion, which should largely be based not on the total testosterone, which is an unreliable indicator of TDS (click here to read Validity of Androgen Assays), but on a full clinical evaluation, and preferably a 2-3 month therapeutic trial of testosterone treatment, which is the key to diagnosis.

If you have a problem in arranging this, then we can make an appointment for you to be seen at our Rapid Diagnosis Clinic, usually within 1-2 weeks, with one of our Specialist Consultant Doctors, for a full history and clinical evaluation.

If after this evaluation the Consultant considers you would be likely to benefit from treatment, you would need to have a full hormonal, biochemical and haematological profile before this could be started. However, if you attend the Rapid Diagnosis Clinic in the morning, these can usually be carried out at the same visit, together with a further consultation with the Specialist later in the day to assess the complete results and discuss testosterone treatment. If TDS is confirmed by the Consultant, treatment can be started immediately.
